EEC Presents 11th Annual ideaLabs

October 27, 2020 – Wisr was proud to serve as an event sponsor for ideaLabs 2020, an Entrepreneurship Education Consortium – sponsored event bringing together undergraduates from 10 regional schools and their business venture ideas. The 11th annual ideaLabs was extended to the 10 EEC partner institutions including Ashland University, Baldwin Wallace University, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Hiram College, John Carroll University, Kent State University, Lake Erie College, Lorain County Community College, and The University of Akron.

Sonia Velu, a student at Case Western Reserve University, was the winner of ideaLabs 2020 with her business Assess-V. Assess-V is a software program that helps medical device design teams streamline the process by focusing on quality control and creating individualized design suggestions based on parameters provided by the customer.

Elizabeth Hanna of Case Western Reserve University took second place with Hanna Cosmetiques, and rounding out the podium was Kent State’s Luke Leyden and his business Trolder. “The ideaLabs competition is an amazing opportunity for students with an up and coming business idea to pitch it to a real audience,” said Leyden.

While held virtually this year, students were given the traditional attention of judges from local businesses and entrepreneurial organizations. Wisr’s co-founder, president, and COO John Knific joined a panel of judges from Jumpstart, Cafilia, the Northeast Ohio Student Venture Fund, and the University of Akron Research Foundation.

About the Entrepreneurship Education Consortium (EEC)

The purpose of the EEC is to provide practical “experiential” and theoretical education to students in Northeast Ohio to prepare them to become entrepreneurs or intrapreneurs; create new ventures and jobs and build wealth for the region. The EEC was founded to promote both the concept and the reality of entrepreneurship among college students of all disciplines. Visit us at www.eecohio.org
